The Director of Outreach is responsible for developing, managing, and continuously strengthening Miracle Flights’ national Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and Family Experience programs in support of the organization’s Impact strategy. This position provides operational leadership for Miracle Flights’ mission outreach function by cultivating strategic relationships with healthcare providers, treatment sites, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other mission-aligned partners that connect eligible families to the organization’s services. Through scalable systems, strategic partnerships, and exceptional relationship management, the Director ensures the organization’s referral ecosystem continues to expand, enabling more families to access specialized medical care regardless of geographic or financial barriers.
Mission outreach strategy encompasses healthcare partnership development, referral ecosystem expansion, strategic partnership cultivation and Family Experience. Responsibilities for media relations, public relations, brand communications, digital marketing, social media strategy, and organizational storytelling reside within the Director of Impact function.
Serving as the operational leader of Miracle Flights’ Mission Outreach function, the Director of Outreach develops, implements, and continuously improves scalable systems that strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem, expand strategic partnerships, and enhance the experience of families served. The position oversees outreach operations, referral ecosystem performance, and Family Experience initiatives while establishing standardized processes that support sustainable organizational growth.
Working collaboratively across the organization and in support of the Impact Division’s strategic priorities, the Director of Outreach translates organizational goals into measurable outreach initiatives that expand Miracle Flights’ national Healthcare Referral Ecosystem, strengthen healthcare and community partnerships, and connect more eligible families to life-changing access to specialized medical care.
Essential Job Functions
Mission Outreach Leadership
Provide operational leadership for Miracle Flights’ Mission Outreach function by translating the Impact Division’s strategic priorities into operational plans, partnership initiatives, and scalable processes that strengthen the organization’s Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and Family Experience.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and execute annual Mission Outreach plans, objectives, and performance measures that support the Impact Division’s strategic priorities and organizational goals.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and strategic partnerships.
- Evaluate Mission Outreach performance and recommend operational improvements.
- Advise the Chief of Impact on emerging partnership opportunities, referral trends, and healthcare access developments.
- Ensure Mission Outreach initiatives align with the Impact Division’s strategic priorities and organizational brand standards.
- Develop scalable operational systems and best practices that strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and Family Experience.
Healthcare Referral Ecosystem Development
Lead the development, stewardship, and continuous expansion of Miracle Flights’ national Healthcare Referral Ecosystem to ensure eligible families are consistently connected to specialized medical care through trusted healthcare and community partnerships.
Responsibilities include:
- Cultivate and strengthen long-term referral partnerships with hospitals, treatment centers, specialty clinics, healthcare systems, and other mission-aligned organizations.
- Expand Miracle Flights’ presence within pediatric and adult specialty care communities by increasing awareness and referral opportunities among healthcare providers and treatment teams.
- Develop trusted relationships with social workers, patient navigators, nurse coordinators, financial counselors, case managers, physicians, and other healthcare professionals who support patient access to care.
- Implement partner engagement plans that foster ongoing collaboration, encourage repeat referrals, and strengthen long-term organizational relationships.
- Identify underserved geographic regions, clinical specialties, and emerging healthcare opportunities where expanded outreach can increase access to Miracle Flights’ services.
- Monitor the health and performance of the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem, identifying gaps, opportunities, and operational improvements that strengthen long-term referral activity.
Healthcare & Strategic Partnership Management
Develop, manage, and strengthen relationships with healthcare providers, treatment sites, professional associations, advocacy organizations, and other mission-aligned partners that expand Miracle Flights’ Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and support the Impact Division’s strategic priorities.
Responsibilities include:
- Cultivate and steward strategic partnerships with healthcare providers, treatment sites, professional associations, advocacy organizations, disease-specific nonprofits, Ronald McDonald Houses, and other mission-aligned organizations.
- Identify and develop opportunities to expand referral pathways through collaborative partnerships, education, and resource sharing.
- Develop and implement partnership engagement and stewardship plans that strengthen long-term relationships and increase referral activity.
- Serve as the primary relationship manager for assigned healthcare and community partners, ensuring consistent communication and engagement.
- Coordinate Miracle Flights’ participation in collaborative initiatives, educational opportunities, and partnership activities that strengthen referral relationships, expand organizational visibility, and advance divisional priorities.
- Coordinate Miracle Flights’ participation in collaborative initiatives and educational opportunities that strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and advance divisional priorities.
- Monitor partnership performance and referral activity, recommending operational improvements and providing regular updates to the Chief of Impact on trends, opportunities, and outcomes.
Professional Association & Industry Engagement
Lead Miracle Flights’ engagement with professional associations, conferences, and industry organizations to strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem, increase organizational visibility, and support divisional priorities.
Responsibilities include:
- Develop and implement an annual professional association and industry engagement plan.
- Evaluate and manage organizational memberships, conferences, speaking engagements, and educational opportunities
- Identify speaking engagements and educational opportunities that expand Miracle Flights’ visibility among key healthcare and nonprofit audiences.
- Manage organizational memberships by maintaining active engagement, identifying value-added opportunities, and recommending improvements that enhance organizational benefit.
- Cultivate and steward relationships established through professional associations and industry events.
Family Experience Leadership
Lead the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Miracle Flights’ Family Experience program to ensure every interaction reflects the organization’s mission, values, and commitment to compassionate service.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish and maintain service standards that ensure families experience timely, compassionate, consistent, and mission-centered communication throughout their Miracle Flights journey.
- Develop and oversee Family Experience processes that support families before, during, and after travel.
- Develop scalable Family Experience systems, workflows, and best practices that ensure consistent service as the organization grows.
- Implement systems for gathering, analyzing, and acting on family feedback to continuously improve programs, services, and the Family Experience.
- Develop long-term family stewardship initiatives that encourage continued engagement, advocacy, volunteerism, and community participation.
- Develop and oversee Family Ambassador, and peer engagement programs that strengthen community, and amplify Miracle Flights’ mission.
- Collaborate with the Director of Impact to identify family engagement opportunities that support organizational storytelling while protecting family dignity, consent, and privacy.
- Evaluate Family Experience performance and recommend operational improvements that strengthen organizational impact.
Outreach Operations & Infrastructure
Develop and oversee the operational infrastructure that enables Miracle Flights’ mission outreach function to scale efficiently, consistently, and sustainably.
Responsibilities include:
- Establish operational standards that promote consistency, efficiency, and scalability across the mission outreach function.
- Develop and maintain systems, resources, and documentation that support effective outreach execution and organizational continuity.
- Ensure accurate management of outreach data, partnership records, and organizational reporting.
- Continuously improve outreach operations by leveraging technology, data, and process improvements.
- Develop operational infrastructure that preserves institutional knowledge and supports sustainable organizational growth.
Healthcare Referral Ecosystem Performance
Use data and performance insights to evaluate outreach effectiveness, strengthen the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem and support continuous operational improvement.
Responsibilities include:
- Monitor the performance and health of the Healthcare Referral Ecosystem.
- Analyze outreach effectiveness, referral trends, and partnership performance.
- Track key performance indicators, including referral activity and conversion metrics.
- Develop performance dashboards and reports that inform operational decision-making.
- Recommend operational improvements based on data and emerging trends.
Team Leadership & Development
Supervise and support the Outreach Specialist (pending approval on title change: Healthcare Partnerships Specialist) and other outreach staff, interns, or volunteers as assigned.
Responsibilities include:
- Supervise and support the Outreach Specialist and other outreach staff or interns as assigned.
- Establish operational priorities, performance expectations, and accountability measures aligned with the Impact Division’s strategic priorities.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and regular performance feedback that supports professional growth and operational excellence.
- Foster collaboration across the Impact Division and other organizational departments to strengthen healthcare partnerships, Family Experience, and organizational outcomes.
- Encourage continuous learning and professional development that strengthens individual capabilities and organizational effectiveness.
- Foster a collaborative, high-performing Mission Outreach team culture grounded in continuous improvement, accountability, and exceptional service to families and healthcare partners.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
Collaborate across Miracle Flights to ensure the Mission Outreach function is aligned with organizational priorities while supporting a seamless experience for families, healthcare partners, and other key stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
- Partner with Director of Impact to align outreach initiatives with organizational communications, marketing, public relations, and brand awareness efforts.
- Collaborate with the Enterprise team to ensure a seamless experience for families and referral partners.
- Work with the Philanthropy team to identify opportunities for strategic partnerships, corporate engagement, and collaborative stewardship when outreach relationships overlap with fundraising priorities.
- Support Executive Leadership on strategic initiatives and special projects.
Additional Essential Functions
- Represent Miracle Flights professionally in interactions with healthcare providers, partners, professional associations, community organizations, and the public.
- Serve as a positive ambassador for Miracle Flights’ mission, values, and culture.
- Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive organizational, partner, and family information
- Participate in organizational planning, leadership meetings, and cross-functional initiatives.
- Travel as required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned in support of organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
Education & Experience
Preferred qualifications include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Nonprofit Management, Marketing, Business Administration, or related field.
- Five or more years of experience in outreach, healthcare partnerships, nonprofit leadership, business development, community engagement, or relationship management.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Experience building strategic partnerships and managing external relationships.
- CRM experience strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements & Work Environment
- Primarily office-based with periodic travel.
- Ability to sit or stand for extended periods.
- Ability to operate standard office equipment.
- Occasional lifting of materials up to 25 pounds.
- Travel to conferences, partner meetings, and organizational events as needed.
Salary: Compensation starting at $75,000 annually, commensurate with experience.
