Nora is a radiant and imaginative 9-year-old from New Braunfels, Texas. The youngest of ten children, she is cherished by her seven sisters and two brothers, who admire her bright spirit and artistic soul. Whether she’s sketching imaginary worlds or inventing whimsical tales, Nora is already dreaming of her future as a writer and illustrator. In 2025, she proudly contributed to the Miracle Flights Child Art Auction, helping to raise awareness and support for other children like herself.
But behind her glowing smile is a story shaped by uncommon strength and quiet determination.
Nora was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita, a rare congenital condition characterized by joint contractures that limit movement in two or more areas of the body. According to the National Institutes of Health, arthrogryposis results from reduced fetal movement in the womb, which can lead to underdeveloped muscles and stiff joints, most often affecting the hands, feet, shoulders, elbows, and hips. In Nora’s case, the condition primarily impacts her hands and feet, presenting daily challenges in mobility and fine motor function.
Accessing the specialized care she needs, particularly from experts at the Paley Orthopedic and Spine Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida, was once a distant dream. The cost of repeated long-distance travel, paired with the emotional and logistical burdens on her family, made each medical trip feel like an uphill climb.
“We knew this care was essential for her to grow and thrive,” her mother shares. “But the financial and emotional strain of getting there was overwhelming. We didn’t want her condition to define her or hold her back from all she is meant to become.”
That is when Miracle Flights entered their story.
Whenever Nora needs to travel for treatment, which is typically two to three times each year, we are there. “Miracle Flights is AMAZING!” her mother says. “Every time we apply for a flight, they respond right away. It’s such a relief, not just financially, but emotionally. We can focus on Nora’s progress, not the cost of getting there.”
With consistent access to world-class care, Nora is thriving. Her condition is now stable, and each visit brings new gains: more strength in her steps, greater dexterity in her hands, and a growing confidence in everything she does. Her quality of life has transformed, and so has her sense of possibility.
