Meet Emperor

Miracle Story

EMPEROR CEASEAR
At just five years old, Emperor, lovingly known as “Champ,” has already earned his nickname in every sense of the word. Born in March of 2020 in Mississippi, this joyful, courageous boy lives up to his royal name with strength, grace, and an unshakable spirit.
“Champ is playful, kind, and full of faith,” his mother, Crystal, says. “No matter what he’s been through, he keeps a smile on his face. His resilience inspires everyone around him.”
Champ’s journey has not been easy. He was born with multiple gastrointestinal issues, such as Esophageal atresia (EA), a congenital condition in which the esophagus fails to form as a continuous passage into the stomach. With EA, a feeding tube will stop in the upper portion of the esophagus and does not reach the stomach, typically confirmed by X‑ray.
He also developed a form of Short‑bowel syndrome, also known as short gut syndrome, a rare condition in which the body cannot absorb enough nutrients and fluids because a significant portion of the small intestine is missing or not functioning properly.
These conditions required numerous surgeries and ongoing specialized care. After his surgery five years ago, Champ began to struggle with bowel incontinence, which caused pain and setbacks in his progress.
“We knew he needed to be seen at Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Ohio for their bowel management program,” Crystal recalls. “But traveling from Mississippi to Ohio felt impossible. The distance and the cost were overwhelming for our family.”
That is when Miracle Flights stepped in, lifting the weight of travel costs and uncertainty so Champ could focus on what matters most, healing.
“Being part of the Miracle Flights family has truly been a blessing,” Crystal says. “They made it possible for Champ to get the medical care he desperately needed without the stress of airfare. As a parent, there is no greater feeling than knowing your child can get the help he deserves, no matter how far away it is.”
Since accessing the care he needed, the transformation in Champ has been nothing short of amazing. Through the bowel management program at Nationwide Children’s, he has gained better control and comfort, which are huge milestones for a little boy who once faced constant discomfort and embarrassment.
“Now, he is more confident, more cheerful, and so proud of himself,” Crystal shares with a smile. “He is comfortable in his body, more energetic, and full of joy. His light shines brighter than ever.”
The changes have touched the whole family as well. Champ’s younger brother, Ryker, has become one of his biggest cheerleaders. “Ryker reminds us when it is time for Champ’s daily treatments and cheers him on every step of the way,” Crystal says. “He turns hard moments into times filled with laughter and love.”
For Crystal, the impact of Miracle Flights goes far beyond transportation. It is a lifeline.
“Before, I carried constant worry,” she says softly. “Now there is peace, relief, and so much gratitude. I can finally breathe knowing my son is getting the care he needs. Miracle Flights did not just help Champ, they helped our whole family heal.”
Every flight Miracle Flights provides for Champ is more than a trip. It is a symbol of hope, progress, and the power of compassion.
“Your generosity does not just fund a flight,” Crystal says to future supporters. “It gives families like ours a chance to believe again, to see our children thrive, and to know we are not alone.”
Champ’s story is a powerful reminder that when kindness takes flight, miracles happen, one child, one family, one journey at a time.
