Carlos, affectionately known as “Carlitos,” greets the world each day with a radiant smile, boundless curiosity, and an irrepressible joy. Though born with hypotonic cerebral palsy, a rare form of the condition marked by reduced muscle tone and loose muscles, he embraces life with remarkable spirit and determination.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), cerebral palsy encompasses a group of disorders that impair a person’s ability to move, maintain balance, and manage posture. While there is no cure, early and sustained intervention can significantly improve mobility, independence, and overall quality of life. For children with hypotonic CP, therapies such as physical rehabilitation and specialized treatments can be life-changing.
Before receiving support from Miracle Flights, Carlitos’s family faced significant obstacles. Residing in Oregon, they had to contemplate the arduous journey all the way to San Antonio, Texas, simply to access the rehabilitation specialists he needed. “Financing such a trip on our own was nearly impossible,” his mother admits.
