Meet Benjamin

Miracle Story

Benjamin Snyder
At seventeen, Benjamin, or Ben as everyone calls him, from Pennsylvania, is entering his final year of high school with quiet confidence and a backpack full of books. A gentle soul with a sharp mind, Ben is known for his mild manner, thoughtful conversation, and love for the library, which has been his companion on countless afternoons. He plays video games with his siblings, shares a special bond with his big sister, and fills their home with laughter through playful teasing. But behind Ben’s warm smile is a story of extraordinary perseverance and a journey made possible by Miracle Flights.
Ben was born with a rare orthopedic condition that severely affected his mobility. While other children ran and played without a second thought, Ben had to navigate a world not built for him. “Since Ben struggles to walk independently,” his mother shares, “he fell down a lot. With each fall, we would hold our breath to assess the damage while the tears flowed.” Broken bones, repeated injuries, and heartbreaking doctor visits were once his norm. One local doctor even told Ben he would never walk. “Ben burst out in tears right there in the office,” his mother remembers. “I explained to him, this is not the doctor for us. We needed someone at a higher level, someone people travel to see.”
It turned out that someone was at the Paley Orthopedic and Spine Institute in Florida. Traveling such a long distance for care seemed impossible until Miracle Flights stepped in. “Miracle Flights represents hope for the future,” Ben’s mother says. “Hope that Ben will be in alignment and walk independently one day. This means everything to us.”
Thanks to Miracle Flights, Ben has been able to access the care he desperately needs. He has undergone several successful surgeries, and each one brings him closer to his dream of walking confidently. “Just yesterday, Ben said to me, ‘I feel more stable when walking now,’” his mother shares. “His right foot is finally positioned correctly on the ground.”
The transformation has been life-changing. Ben is now more independent, able to get his own water, make simple meals, and walk without constant fear of falling. “With every surgery, he’s become increasingly independent. His quality of life has dramatically improved. I used to worry about him falling into depression if we did not have access to this care.”
According to the National Institutes of Health, conditions like Ben’s, including complex congenital or neuromuscular orthopedic disorders, often require specialized surgical interventions to improve mobility and prevent long-term complications. Institutions like the Paley Orthopedic and Spine Institute are recognized for their expertise in these complex cases, offering advanced surgical techniques and individualized rehabilitation plans that significantly enhance patients’ quality of life.
Ben’s story highlights the profound impact of access to specialized care. Miracle Flights does more than provide transportation. It bridges the gap between children and the medical expertise they need to live fuller, more independent lives. For Ben and his family, that support has been nothing short of transformational, turning hope into progress and dreams into reality.
