Every child deserves a chance at a healthy, joyful life. For 10-year-old Destiny from Ohio, that chance came through courage, love, and the gift of flight.
Destiny is bright, kind, and resilient. She was born with two complex and rare conditions: CLOVES syndrome and spina bifida, a combination so unique, she is believed to be the only person in the world with both.
According to the CLOVES Syndrome Community, CLOVES is a rare disorder caused by a genetic mutation during fetal development. It results in abnormal tissue overgrowth, vascular malformations, and skeletal abnormalities. Spina bifida, as defined by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, is a neural tube defect that affects the spine and can lead to physical and neurological complications.
For Destiny, these diagnoses bring daily challenges, frequent hospital stays, and a need for highly specialized medical care. But her care team is more than 1,000 miles away at Boston Children’s Hospital.
“We tried to drive, but the long hours in the car were too hard on Destiny,” her mom shares. “We knew she needed help but didn’t know how to ask.”
That is when Miracle Flights stepped in.
The organization began providing free flights to Boston, making it possible for Destiny to receive the expert care she needs. The difference has been life changing.
“She had 19 hospital admissions in just one year before,” her mom says. “Since she’s been treated in Boston, she hasn’t had a single one. Her quality of life has improved dramatically.”
Destiny is now thriving under the care of doctors who understand her rare and complex needs. And thanks to Miracle Flights, she can continue to access that care quickly, safely, and without financial burden.
“Miracle Flights gave us peace of mind,” her mom says. “If Destiny needs to see her doctors, we can get there. I don’t have to worry about long, dangerous drives anymore.”
Destiny’s story is more than a medical journey. It is a testament to resilience, hope, and the power of community.
“She’s more than her diagnosis,” her mom says. “She’s a fighter. A bright light. And proof that no matter how rare or difficult the path may be, there is always hope and always people willing to help.”
