Declan is a kind, caring, and passionate 12-year-old boy with a heart as big as his love for soccer. Yet for years, he faced challenges no child should ever endure. Diagnosed with Eosinophilic Esophagitis, or EoE, Declan suffered from a rare, chronic allergic inflammatory condition of the esophagus. According to the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, EoE causes the esophagus to become inflamed and narrow, making swallowing difficult and painful. This condition severely limited Declan’s diet, leaving him with only a handful of safe foods and eventually necessitating a feeding tube to sustain his nutrition.
By the time he was eight years old, Declan’s health was in jeopardy. He had lost weight rapidly, and his quality of life was deeply affected. Local treatments failed to bring relief, and the future looked uncertain for this spirited young boy.
