Meet Regina

Miracle Story

At Miracle Flights, every child’s journey matters. Sweet Regina’s story is a powerful reminder of what hope, access to care, and a caring community can make possible.
Three-year-old Regina from Amarillo, Texas, has already taken five Miracle Flights to receive specialized medical care at Cook’s Children’s Medical Center in Fort Worth. Regina was born with Down syndrome, a tethered spinal cord, and complex gastrointestinal conditions. Her medical needs are ongoing, and timely access to expert pediatric specialists is essential to improving her quality of life and long-term outcomes.
For families like Regina’s, traveling long distances for pediatric specialty care can be overwhelming emotionally, physically, and financially. Miracle Flights removes one major burden by providing free flights so children can access the care they need without delay.
During her most recent medical trip, Regina met with a surgeon to address her gastrointestinal concerns and a pediatric neurosurgeon to evaluate her tethered spinal cord. Proactive care and close monitoring give Regina the best possible chance to grow, thrive, and enjoy being a little kid.
After their December trip, Regina’s mom shared an update.
“Our trip in December went smoothly. The plane and rides to doctors and back to the airport went smoothly. Thank you, Blacklane. Regina does have more appointments in the future.”
She added simply and sincerely, “We appreciate you.”
Those words reflect exactly why Miracle Flights exists. When travel logistics are handled, families can focus on what truly matters. Their child.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately one in every 772 babies in the United States is born with Down syndrome. The National Down Syndrome Society explains that there are three types, including trisomy 21, which accounts for about 95 percent of cases, translocation at approximately 3 percent, and mosaicism at about 2 percent. Every child with Down syndrome is unique. Some require more specialized and frequent medical care than others, and Regina is one of those children who benefit greatly from access to top pediatric specialists.
Regina’s tethered spinal cord is a neurological condition in which the spinal cord is abnormally attached within the spinal canal, limiting its movement. According to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, a tethered spinal cord can cause pain, mobility challenges, and other complications if not properly monitored and treated.
Regina’s mom also shared a heartfelt message for the supporters who make Miracle Flights possible.
“I want to say to the donors that I am immensely grateful for giving us the opportunity to travel. It releases a lot of pressure from what we already have, dealing with a special needs child. I have nothing else but appreciation and gratitude towards all the donors for their kindness.”
Miracle Flights is more than medical air transportation. It is peace of mind. It is access to hope. It is children like Regina getting the care they need today and the chance for a brighter tomorrow.
