Meet Dawsyn

Miracle Story

Dawsyn Burch
Dawsyn was born with bilateral congenital clubfoot (talipes equinovarus), a condition where both feet turn inward and downward at birth. It is one of the most common congenital foot deformities, affecting about one in every 1,000 live births.
Her treatment journey began when she was just 11 days old. Early intervention is critical for children with clubfoot, and the Ponseti method, which involves gentle manipulations, casting, and bracing, is considered the gold standard for achieving correction and improving long-term function.
For years, her family remained hopeful, following every step of their trusted doctor’s treatment plan in St. Louis. But as Dawsyn approached her fifth birthday, they received heartbreaking news: despite all efforts, her feet were not fully corrected. The only option left was a tendon transfer surgery, a delicate procedure to realign and stabilize her feet.
To make things more complicated, their trusted physician had relocated to the Paley Orthopedic & Spine Institute in West Palm Beach, Florida. Although virtual consultations had worked in the past, this next stage of care required multiple in-person visits, hundreds of miles away from their home in Illinois. Financing such repeated travel seemed impossible.
That is when Miracle Flights stepped in.
“With Miracle Flights, it became possible,” her mother shares. “They lifted a massive financial burden and supported us from the very beginning.”
Now, with flights making treatment accessible, Dawsyn is receiving the specialized surgical care she needs from the doctor her family trusts most. This marks not just the next stage in her medical journey, but also a profound step toward a brighter and more mobile future.
“We want to thank Miracle Flights from the bottom of our hearts,” her mother adds. “Without them, I am not sure we could have done any of this. We will forever be grateful.”
